PalmTop Computing
I once used a Cassiopeia E-11. I really liked Active Sync and never had a
problem with the unit, except that it was given to me free and used and you had
to reset the stylus every time you picked it up. For Christmas 2002, I got a
color Palm m130 -- a 9.2 on the coolness richter scale. The images are
incredibly clear and crisp, and there is sooooo much more (free)software
available for the Palm than for a CE device that I am in lala land. I have about
fifteen games on the unit, ten AvantGo channels, and Documents to go 4.0, so I
can view and edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. I have a nice little
shopping list app, as well as several quizzes and IQ tests. I wish there were an
easier way to get eBooks for free, but such is life.
Here are some useful links:
- Avantgo-- join to set up online content on CE, Palm OS, or
Pocket PC Devices-- can turn any website into a channel, but their free
selection rocks. Play around and see which channels work best for you. Right
now I have these:
- All the news from Reuters --excellent news channel, includes images, as
well as nation, world, sports and entertainment
- CNET News -- more techie oriented news
- Metacritic -- compiles scores for films based on an analysis of serveral
professional critical reviews
- New York Times -- Uh, it's the NY Times. 'Nuff said.
- Palm Boulevard -- Links to software downloads and news about palms
- PDA Buzz -- More links to software and more Palm news
- Rolling Stone -- Nice diversion-- Peter Travers reviews
- Wired -- Favorite techie rag in a lite version
- Yahoo! -- Personalized movie schedules and weather
- ZDNet -- Currently under renovation
- Active Sync-- If you have a CE or PocketPC
device, you need this to transfer files between palm devices and your
computer.
