Took long enough, but better late than never -- here is a panoramic photo of my classroom after I cleaned it out. Be patient -- it is 980k and you will need Quicktime to view it. There are watermarks on it from the software -- but you know me -- I don't like to pay for things and I don't like to steal software either. The software is called PanaVue and works really well.

Well, if there had been any doubt that I was one of the coolest guys on the planet before, I think I have put that to rest with my latest escapade.

My lovely wife had a friend to give her a scanner after she was subjected to my whining about not having one any more having relinquished my position as yearbook sponsor (congrats, Meg).

Well, it is a very nice Memorex scanner -- needs no expeternal power source-- pulls off of USB -- it is 48 bit and has a very small footprint.

Since it didn't come with the software, I trolled four message boards and found teh drivers as a .zip file and installed them -- XP didn't pick it up for some reason.

Then, I did a search for free OCR software and found the coolest little thing:
Simple OCR: http://www.simpleocr.com/. It works great -- even has a recgnition highlighting feature that allows you to click and select possibilities for unkown terms from a list -- it rocks -- open source to the rescue again!

We looked at our wonderful but TINY aprtment where we will be spending the next three months, and we looked at our house -- we have a roof and the interior is framed out -- we even have a bathtub and some DUCTS!!! Hopefully our ductwork won't give us as much grief as Sam Lowry's.

Seven peeps. Papa John's Fu. Returning the favor and going to my lovely wife's babies graduation Fu. Walking in our house before it is finished Fu. Playing computer guru Fu.

Well, now that the cat has been let out of the bag and the beans are spilt, there is no use crying over spilled milk, because tomorrow isanother day and every cloud has a silver lining. I mean, people, every time a door closes, another opens, so even though it may seem like when it rains it pours, you need to understand that all good things must come to an end. Remember that discretion is the better part of valor, and my leaving might be just what the doctor ordered, because we all have to make hay while the sun shines, and you can't put all your eggs in one basket. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Besides, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones or be mad that someone is leaving the school when they have left themselves.

Since time and tide wait for no man, I think it is time that this rolling stone start shaking off some of the moss and move onto greener pastures, because what the eye doesn't see the heart won't grieve over.

You're only young once, and when opportunity knocks, you need to get on the canoe and paddle up the the tree, because lightning never strikes while the boling pot calls the kettle black.

This almost made sense when I started.

If you would like help deciphering this palimpsest of idiomatic expressions, please visit tonight's sponsor (is it a sponsor if I am not getting paid?)http://www.idiomconnection.com/proverbs.html

Seven peeps. Plenty o' help from '03's and '06's and a nice visit with half of the former yearbook staff and the singers and their cabbie, Nichel. Fu. Wonderful Wendy's salad and ogre sized M&M's fu. Marvelling at the vast plethora of lurkers who have been reading the past week's developments in silence re: comments Fu.

Almost done making a huge mess Fu.

Today was a sad day. This was the last time I would take pictures of the kleenex brigade on the last day waving goodbye, and the last time I would tell kids who didn't pass FCAT that it doesn't have to be a scary test.

It is the end of the school year, so I don't need to keep it a secret anymore; this is my last year at Hungerford Prep.

I know that former students read this blog and some of you are wondering now why I didn't tell you in person.

I don't like to say goodbye, and I didn't want a bunch of rising seniors revolting and returning to home schools because they were disappointed.

Thanks to those who figured it out but kept it under wraps.

Thanks also to those who I did say goodbye to -- everyone has been very supportive.

I apologize in advance to any '04 seniors who feel deprived because they can't hang out in my room next year, but if you are reading this, then you know how to stay in touch.

I will post pictures of the house we are building, and stay tuned to the Dillondesk site for updates on my new school. Obviously I will be changing a few links.

The new Hungerford Prep site went live last Friday -- you should check it out -- those freshmen who were always coming into third period at the end of the year did a great job.

Mrs. Deering has the SpongeBob and a couple of the word tombstones, and I have heard talk of a Dillon shrine -- I think it should have Calyoda holding a Peep and scratching his head while he works on a computer.

I am off to have dinner with my lovely wife and cart another load of Dillon detritus into the garage.

Five peeps. Crappy last lunch at stupid Steak and Ale Fu. Nice little clock (but no gold watch) Fu. No cake (or French Silk Pie) for Dillon Fu. Finally stopping the innuendos and hints Fu. Thanks for the memories Fu. Getting misty over sappy notes in the yearbook Fu. Goodnight Mrs. Tunstall, I mean Deering, wherever you are Fu. You know where to find me on the Internet Fu.

Today is the last day for students at Hungerford Prep. I don't have to give any exams today, so I get to play administrator and work on getting my signout sheet signed off.

Sometimes being too busy is a good thing.

MY lovely wife and I are watching the PBS reality series "Colonial House" -- this is part of the same series as "Frontier House," "Manor House," and "1900 House." THey take a family, or in the case of the Frontier and Colonial house projects, several families, and they immerse them in the history of the period, then give them a task to do and require that they live as poeple did in the time period they have learned about, obeying natural laws as well as temporal and legislative laws. They must wear period clothes, eat period food, and use tools that are authentic. It really is fascinating to watch the people try to do things as they were done back then and realize the work that went into just being alive.

Watched the season finale of Six Feet Under and the next to last episode of the Sopranos last night.

I thought today would be a senior-free day, but actually I have had a senior in my room (or immediately outside it) since the senior breakfast. Today I got a visit from a 2003 senior as well as two 2004 seniors. Also, my cute cuddly little freshpeople finished their final exams -- so I won't ever see them again.

Had lunch with part of my teacher clique at Subway -- the faculty luncheon is tomorrow at Steak and Ale.

Dean Dean helped me cart a couple of bulky items home -- it is amazing what one can amass in one classroom in five years.

Well, I am off to finish cooking our dinner of tater tots and chicken (actually texturized soy protein) sandwiches.

Seven peeps. Cleaning up and out Fu. Laughing with my administrative team in the front office about crazy things that happen when kids look over your shoulder Fu.
