I love how newspapers can slant things.

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/orange/orl-locteachers14071404jul14,1,1076296.story?coll=orl-news-headlines

Ron Blocker is planning to involuntarily transfer NBCTs if enough highly qualified teachers do not voluntarily move to Jones, Evans, and Oak Ridge. The issue is being cast as evil teachers not wanting to do the right thing to help kids.

The real issue is, Blocker needs 30 highly qualified teachers to move to those schools to get the state off his back, and what is actually going to happen is that several of these talented people will leave the county or teaching altogether to avoid being thrown to the wolves.

These people have built careers and are probably very effective (not to mention happy) where they are. Destroying what works isn't going to fix what is broken. If the district were really committed to helping those schools, they wouldn't have to extort transfers out of NBCTs - those teachers would be beating down the door to go there. Forcing people to do something they don't want to do robs them of the commitment and passion that make them good to begin with.

This whole thing makes me sad, but rather glad that I am now in a different district.

Good luck everybody.

Saturday was fun -- we had greasy pizza and played all kinds of games -- from Millipede to Discs of Tron to the Punisher at DisneyQuest.

Then I got a Dead Milkmen album at the Virgin Megastore (Stupid Maryanne will always be one of my favorite songs).

Went by the house on Sunday -- we have joint compound, exterior paint and interior doors in our garage -- all the drywall is pretty much finished, and we should have a ceiling and interior paint by the end of next week.

Monday Joe and I went back to packing food boxes and I went to a terrible, horrible class in which the teacher gave us this incredibly long exam, which I stayed up until 1:00am last night to do, then edited out the Calvin anger this morning. You can read all 30 pages of the test (both versions) and get the exam paper here. At least it is finished. I have the same teacher on Thursday night, and I have to hand in an another assignment to her then, and she will probbaly assign another assinine test that has nothing to do with what we did in class.

Today is the day before I begin my new teacher training for Hillsborough County. I will be in training until the 23rd, and then preplanning goes until my birthday.

Have a great Tuesday!
