I read an interesting article with my students yesterday. There was a cross country meet in which a runner who had a 30 second lead stumbled and couldn't get up because she was so dehydrated (she does 3 hours of dance practice every day after cross country). Her mom and coaches watched her claw and roll her way over the finish line to finish fourth so her team could win the meet.
I don't know if I could stand there and watch my child go through that pain, but most of my students said she was a "soldier" and deserved praise for her determination.
I guess if you forget about the IV and being carted to the hospital, I can agree.

Well, here we are at the close of another hurricane-foreshortened week. The kids took the FCAT retake yesterday, and I must say it made me very nostalgic. I was the proctor for a group in a classroom since my kids all had to take the test. However, no one put me on the list to have my homeroom covered, and no one realized that as kids finished, they were letting them leave, so I had about 15 kids show up fourth period while I was still testing in another room. Good times, good times.
To de-stress at the end of the day, sixth and seventh periods looked at MSNBC's Week in Pictures on the TV and made inferences about what they saw -- then we voted on our favorite and reviewed Cultural Literacy terms. I like this bunch -- they have a great deal of personality and are very grateful when you help them -- reminds me of a few other classes I have taught.
Aside from school, the week has been spent getting the living areas straightened up and unpacking the essentials -- like the hammock!
Six peeps. Tired, but a good tired Fu. Knights of the Old Republic as a Platinum Hit for $20 Fu

BREAKING NEWS!!! DILLONS HAVE FIRST HURRICANE CASUALTY!!
Well, we didn't actually lose the tree -- joe and I propped it back up with tie downs. We got another two days off school, so I have not been there since Thursday afternoon --- feels like a real vacation! I have had a great deal of fun nesting and putting things where they should go. I have installed an inline filter for the fridge (mmmmm... icemaker), took the arms off the futon so we could get it into the room and then put it back together (stonger, faster and better than it ever was before!), put all our patio furniture back onto the patio after the storm (this was the roughest we had -- the others just sounded bad -- this was actually scary wind).
We got all moved in and here are some pictures -- Click for pix!
I am very happy with my new house, but not as happy as I am with my new toy!
Seven peeps. Days off are good when you move Fu. Star Wars looks better on a 52" screen Fu. I can fit a car in the garage Fu!
