Saw a rather interesting film yesterday. I have decided that Mondays will be film days, because my lovely wife teaches until about 9:30. I am also toying with the idea of joining the Blockbuster movie pass club -- unlimited free rentals for $25 a month and you can have 2 movies out at a time. Kind of like NetFlix with no lag time between rentals. Or I could read books, I guess.
Bad(der) Santa was the first up -- it was the Billy Bob Thornton pic with the angry African American little person and the angry, expletive spewing, safe-cracking drunk who are Santa and his little helper. The torrent of profanity was not as well managed in this film as in, say, "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back," but Thornton was fantastic as the misanthropic lover of large women and, inexplicably, Lauren Graham, sans Rory (yes, it is spelled with a "y" -- I checked. And Lorelei is spelled "Lorelai" -- go figure). All in all the movie was disturbing and a little embarassingly funny, but mostly just embarrassing. I can't believe the brothers Coen allowed the producer to list them as execs.
I am more looking forward to "American Splendor" - the Paul Giamatti study of Harvey Pekar - the downtrodden everyman who has published his life in an annual comic series that was picked up by Dark Horse in the early 90's. I think I might even pop popcorn for this one.
Happy Thanksgiving Eve-Eve to all.
Cool site of the day
http://altervistas.com/ -- very strange alternative search engine that returns relevant sites in annoying frames.
Cool movie quote
The last quote was from Truman Sparks, the deadhead pilot in the movie Fandango -- the best film ever made starring Kevin Costner and Judd Nelson. I loved this movie -- saw it several times in the 80's on HBO. Kevin is great at playing scoundrels.
New quote:
"It's A Dinglehopper."
Six peeps. Feeling a little restless Fu. Ready for turkey day already Fu.

I have been doing battle with draperies today, and the draperies appear to have the upper hand (or pleat, as the case may be).
I am using my laser level, so the rods are straight, but I had to rehang one because it was too wide for the valance we were putting on it.
Then I was all set to work in the bedroom on those curtains, but I need to do a quick consult with my lovely designer, and she is otherwise disposed and located at the moment, so I guess I will brave the tropical heatwave and work on the lawn before it gets too dark to do that. I wasn;t even able to install the dimmers we got yesterday because I think the Home Depot van is also otherwise disposed and located. Yes, a lesser man would spend time fooling around on the computer, but I fully intend to make the most of every minute this weekend. You hush -- I'm getting up right now. This very second. Just watch me. Here we go. Yup, I feel a movement from a seated to a standing position coming at any second. Here we go.
