(Apparently the producers felt the hats were "wrecking the shots" because they made it look as if "Broadway appeared to be crawling with ladybugs - Discover-branded ladybugs." - http://www.nytimes.com/2005/01/01/nyregion/01emcee.html?8bl)

What was with Regis and those stupid orange hats? The only thing I could figure was that they said "DISCOVER" on them. Ideas?

Happy New Year! (tomorrow)
Watched "Mean Girls" last night. This was actually quite a sardonic little film. (check imdb listing)
I knew Tina Fey wrote it, but I didn't know that she adapted a non-fiction book about girl bullying called "Queen Bees and Wannabes," or that the characters would be so rich and three-dimensional (even the ones who were supposed to be two-dimensional).
My favorite scenes were of course the bus accidents, the Mathlete Rap by Kevin Gnapoor, and those involving Damian and Janice Ian (!)
I liked the subtle inclusion of the other SNL alumni in minor roles, as well as the fact that they showed strong female characters triumphing over those who buy into stereotypes and superficiality.
I highly recommend the film.
We also watched both Bourne films, and I must say I liked Identity much more than Supremacy.
Franka Potente lent a humanity to the first film that was missing when she was shot at the beginning of the second. (although the scene of her disappearing into the murky depths of the river after Damon tried underwater mouth-to-mouth was well-done).
Also jarring was the camera work on the second film. I am all for moving the camera around and getting away from relentless steady-camming, but Paul Greengrass, the director, needs to learn to hold the camera steady at some point. It makes me more than a little nervous that Aronovsky has been replaced by Greengrass for the film version of the Watchmen.
Anyway, good luck with your blackeyed peas, cornbread and collard greens today, everyone. I am also making guacamole -- maybe that can signify having a little spice in your life in the coming year? The recipe is one of Alton Brown's -- Good Eats is one of our new favorite shows.
Six peeps. Hanging out with the family Fu. Funny high school flick Fu. Wondering about Tina Fey's scar Fu (it happened in childhood, but she doesn't like to talk about it-- some things should remain private - I think it is wonderful that she doesn't try to cover it up on the show). Finally continuing the Peeps count and Fu Fu.

My mother let me know that I was slacking terribly on keeping up the archive -- since I changed there was no way for you guys to go back and look at old posts from June to December.
I went through and updated the whole shebang -- so if you go here:
where you will find such great 2004 moments as Joe's birthday, as well as hurricanes, hurricanes, and the Incredibles.
If you want to see Thanksgiving -- just click on the big turkey:
Hope everyone is having a very nice break from everything -- tomorrow I paint the hallway -- unless I decide to get adventurous and begin it now -- which is not very likely.
I bought collards and blackeyed peas today, as well as Martha White cornbread mix and some squash and onions. No hamhocks, though --- they were out.
Anyway -- we are going to watch the two Bourne movies this week -- I will let you know how they are -- we are also going to watch ELF -- no, I have never seen it. I look forward to laughing my hotdog buns off.
