Well, I got up QUITE early for a Saturday so I could take the kids out to eat. I have been listening to the Beekeeper, and I think that my new favorite song on the record is "Martha's Foolish Ginger" -- I love the line about the harbor lights --
You were late
How could I forget what you said-
the part about that
"Love taking over your life"
was not your plan

If those harbour lights had just been a half a mile inland
who knows what I would have done

We ate breakfast at the Huddle House -- I had a Philly Cheese steak omelet -- it was muy delicioso.

Now I am off to the info session for the Jamboree -- not Camporee as previously reported -- this is the big gathering with troops from across the country and it will be taking place in Virginia.

Getting ready to leave school to go home -- and it's only 3:20pm!!

I transferred Tori's new album "The Beekeeper" to my Clie so I can carry it around and try to learn the songs before April 1.

So far I really like "Hoochie Woman," "Sleeps with Butterflies," "General Joy," and "The Power of Orange Knickers."

I got the Limited Edition CD, and I plan to watch the DVD this afternoon (don't know if I will end up planting the wildflowers in the enclosed seed packet or not, yet).

Today has been a good day -- I proved to the kids that Jon Heder is still very much alive and used the website to teach them to be critical readers -- that was fun.

I also pretaught the vocab for the next SAT pretest so we can see if the scores go up.

Well, it is about that time, so I will be taking my leave now.

Six peeps. Tired and a little bit of a headache Fu. Can't wait to lay down on the couch and procrastinate on grading SAT essays again Fu.

Wow -- you miss one week because of American Idol and Rory is smooching with the rich kid and Lorelai and Luke broke up and Krt is playing Tevye!! Gilmore GIrls was good tonight, even though I am not sure how I feel about the rick kid. I know I think his haircut looks better on me, but I think Logan is a first name suited only to Canucks who are named after vicious rodents and happen to also be genetic experiments with adamantium skeletons, incredible regenerative powers and Swiss cheese for a memory and who have a thing for girls who die and are reborn and love geeks with vision problems.

My students for the past two school days have been insisting that Jon Heder, the young fella who played the titular role in Napoleon Dynamite, met his maker at the wheel of a large automobile. I gave up and did the Googlization to verify or debunk this tragic occurrence, and foudn that we have a new meme on our hands, ladies and germs. This one is already documented as a hoax on Snopes.com, and a newspaper columnist debunked the idea here: http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/plaindealer/index.ssf?%2Fbase%2Fentertainment%2F11087228979610.xml. The page that started this mess is a blog called "The Second Best Page in the Universe," and is so clearly a hoax that the freakin' losers who forwarded this TOTAL garbage about Napoleon being dead should totally just be so ashamed that they bury their heads in the kitty litter for like a million years! Gossssshhhhhhh.

Six peeps. Glad people are not spreading rumors of my premature death Fu.

Well, we watched Ray last night and had a busy day today. I cooked steaks for the Gudes on the grill last night and they were good if I do say so myself and I do say so myself (that is a very strange expression -- how would saying it myself contradict an absolute observable fact?)

After dinner we watched Ray -- all of it. And there was alot of it. 152 minutes of it (luckily I was argued out of watching the director's cut, which would have added another 26 minutes). Jamie Foxx was commendable, but no more so than Eddie Murphy doing Stevie Wonder or John Belushi doing Joe Cocker. For a musical biopic, I think I would have to pick Coal Miner's Daughter with Sissy Spacek, the Buddy Holly Story with Gary Busey, Amadeus with Tom Hulce, or Shine with Geoffrey Rush. They were all more compelling stories of more likeble characters. For a significant African American biopic, I would pick Ali with Will Smith or the Great White Hope with James Earl Jones (a coincidence they are both boxers?). For a tormented soul suffering from the monsters hidden in his closet and resisting the prejudice of the rest of the world, Dragon with Jason Scott Lee was a great one.

The music was wonderful, but the music was wonderful BEFORE there was a movie. The actresses as the three women in his life were great, but the kid playing young Ray ws HORRIBLE, and the bit with his brother was a little incomprehensible -- I'm with the mom when she screamed "Why didn't you yell for help?" He is a little young for Camusesue ennui, and his self-absorption and mistreatment of everyone who loved him made him a hard character to be sympathetic with. The cold turkey scenes were okay, and the whole feeling the wrist motif was cute, but ultimately there is no way this should be the best picture.

Sky Captain, on the other hand, was incredible. I haven't felt a buzz like that from an action adventure since the Indiana Jones flicks. Jude Law is no Harrison Ford, but this movie captured the love of the thirties serial perfectly. The visuals were awesome, echoing the Buster Crabbe Flash Gordon episodes I used to stay up late to watch. Gwyneth and Jude had great chemistry, and the movie ran just long enough -- it was the perfect, beautiful roller coaster ride, and as an artistic vision, there has been nothing like it since they started shaking the camera on NYPD Blue. THose of you who passed on it missed a great flick.

24 is on Behruz just shot his daddy!! -- HOIGHT!

Six peeps. Too much to do and too much to eat standing in the way of me accompishing the tasks that would lessen the list of what I have to do. Fu.

No comment about the passing of the great HST!?!? What is wrong with the world these days? I would agree that Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story is an excellent biopic, probably my favorite. Did you see The Aviator? It was pretty interesting. Drop me an email if you have the time.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I suppose he rated a comment, thought I am not sure what that would be. He was a very important journalist, and without him the world would never have met Uncle Duke, but I didn't really feel like glorifying the way he chose to snuff the candle. It is one thing to obsess over firearms, but quite another to pull an Ernie H.

Haven't seen Aviator-- I don't know if I could stomach that much Di Caprio in one sitting. -- Sideways is next on my list, and then MIllion Dollar Baby.

Psych! I did not get to watch Sky Captain yet -- Saturday was spent in a haze of lassitude and torpor -- all that happened was a quick trip to the dog park, a trip to the airport post office (don't ask), and a nap on the Gude's couch. We are now headed to the grocery store (Publix for those out-of-state readers) te get steaks to grill for dinner. I will write with a review of Ray (the movie we are watching with our dinner guests) tomorrow.

Seven peeps. Naps rock Fu.
