My thoughts:
She was in great voice, but the show was a little dark. (Understatement of the year, there folks -- this show would have made Ian Curtis feel a little blue.)
Except for "Happy Phantom," the songs lacked the jauntiness that marks her best work. Noticeably missing were the bluesy numbers from Beekeeper, like "Hoochie Woman" or "Witness." Jamaica Inn was clunky and did not work on the Hammond very well (some weirdo said it was going to be a concert favorite -- I don't see how). It was cute when she forgot the words to "Jamaica" and had to ask Mark for help -- "Husband? How does that go-- remember that day when I was so ****ed off at you??")
On the positive side, the "Tori's Piano Bar" section with the two covers was brilliant, and the performances on "Winter," "Pretty Good Year," and "The Beekeeper" were worth admission.
She had a funny moment with the audience when they were shouting out song names -- she said "It really doesn't matter what you say tonight," and then explained the whole email thing -- the website has a garden where fans can request songs for her to play during this part of the show -- she has had over 4000 requests so far. She made a reference to her days playing at a bar and told people tonight was different because they couldn't get close enough to spill beer on the piano. I heard her dedicate "1,000 Oceans" to Jessica -- presumably Jessica Lunsford, and reportedly she made a reference to Michael (her dad, but also could have been Mr. Schiavo) during "Beekeeper." "Rattlesnakes" was MUCH better this time than the last time I saw her, and "Putting the Damage On" was also really heartfelt.
I would like to see her later on the next leg of the tour with the boys, and see if she cheers up any. There has been a lot of sadness in the vicinity lately with the passing of Terri, the loss of Jessica, and the illness of John Paul II, so I think that really colored what she did this evening.
There was a cute little girl who was leaning on the stage in the front during the second encore, and they seemed to be having their own special moment.
For some reason, the shirt vendors were only taking cash, and the venue had just one ATM, which was a pain. Hopefully it was a venue problem and not a vendor problem.
The one other thing that really bothered me was the volume of the amplification -- this was an intimate venue and her little sound engineer husband (if Mark was working the boards) was having a Spinal Tap moment or something, because those amps were definitely turned up to 11. The mix was almost painful, and the organ was not balanced with the piano, and when she went on the high keys, it was almost piercing. If she wasn't such an incredible singer and pianist, this would have been painful.
Oh well, time for bed.

Well, I changed my mind again -- I used wbloggar and it made the same post twice, so I have discontinued use again. And since the guy's page has been hacked for almost a week now, I am having less and less confidence in the security of the code.
Tori is tonight! I am excited! The first show of the tour -- this should be great! I listened to her performance on "That's Live," including a trivia quiz that she did with the host -- very cute -- as well as her improvised song about Amsterdam. You can catch it at hereinmyhead.com's Diagnosed Sounds
Wal-Mart stores around the country will be hosting a celebration this weekend called "48 hours of the Force." Here is the article about the toy rollout, and here is the list of stores that will have the special celebration. You have all weekend (after you see Sin City, of course) to swing by and check out the goodies.

I am using w.bloggar again -- the standalone client I liked so much -- to interface with the blog. I had to quit using it before because of all of the error messages, and that was a sad thing to me because it was much easier to manage the posts with it.
It seems to be working well, but his site was hacked by some kiddos -- when you go there and you view his page source here is what you find:
If only they would use their powers for good.
Have a happy Monday.
