eBay item 4540622464 (Ends Apr-09-05 16:16:40 PDT) - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adam...
I am almost as depressed as Marvin -- outbid by 50 cents -- at least I was at Red Lobster having WONDERFUL cheddar bay biscuits while this miscreant stole my childhood from me. I hope you can sleep at night, you stealth nostalgist. If I were a vengeful person I would curse the cassette so that it broke and got inextricably tangled in your expensive tape deck in your car, causing the entire dash to be removed, but I am not, so I hope you enjoy it.
50 cents :( Rats.

they are coming out with the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy movie. you are The Dillon so you probably already know this.
And you should definately see Sin City. I think you would like it.
Well, actually I am only one of the Dillon's, but I get your point. Yes, I do know about the movie. I am very excited about it, as I am about several movies.
I did see Sin City -- if you scroll down to April 3 you can read my review.
BTW, which Stephanie might this be?
and the blondeness took control....
So sorry -- I have to be able to distinguish my legion of fans -- and I have had three more of you as students this year -- it must have been a popular name in the late 80's. :)
Hope everything is going well for you.

I am currently the high bidder on a cassette version of the BBC radio show of the Hitchhikker's Guide to the Galaxy.
I hope I win it -- it is been a long time since I have head Marvin say, "Does it matter? Does it matter that it matters?"
Ahhhhh. Nostalgia.
I think I may have to buy the Lego Star Wars video game tomorrow. It looks tres cool.

X-E. Star Wars. Midnight Madness.
Someone else had fun with the Toys R Us in Times Square and Star Wars!
This is a great slideshow of the madness this past Saturday as the toys we rolled out Friday at midnight.
Careful -- there is some adult language used to describe the geeks who bought the toys, but there really aren't any serious spoilers.
I watched the Empire of Dreams documentary again today -- it was different now that I know so much about the movie. George sure does look different, though. He is no longer the skinny kid from Modesto.

Star Wars: Episode III | Star Wars Racing is Here
This is pretty funny, even for Lucas:
Several NASCAR giants, including Jeff Gordon, will be driving Sith and Jedi-themed cars in upcoming races. A bit odd.
More compelling is a sneak peek that Hyperspace members get at the soundtrack: the featured song is :"Grievous speaks to Lord Sidious," sounds prooty hot, a bit like "Duel of the Fates," but with more immediate urgency.
I taped the last half of the NCAA championship game last night. (I flipped back and forth between the game and "24" -- they shot down Air Force One!) I can't believe May and the 'Heels blew a fifteen point lead to let the Illini TIE the game with less than five minutes left. The remainder was well-played, but they really fell apaert there for a while -- at least they never relinquished the lead.
That was a real nailbiter down the stretch, but the the boys in red made the same mistake they made all night -- dishing treys that weren't falling and fouling the wrong players.
May was incredible -- he is like a Shaq but with talent and finesse.
Rah, rah, Carolina-lina, rah, rah, Carolina-lina, rah rah, Carolina -lina (and you know the rest!)
Happy Tuesday.

BBC - Radio 4 - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - The Adventure Game
This is great -- it even LOOKS like the Guide should look!
This is the BBC site, and it turns out they reunited the cast for a go at radio versions of the other three books. Who knew? I hope they will end up on CD soon.

A busy weekend in four parts
We have had quite the busy weekend, my lovely wife and I.
Friday night we saw Tori (see previous) and Saturday we went to the mall, where I purchased several books from Waldenbooks (the novelization of Revenge of the Sith, vol 4 of The Sandman graphic novels, the Hard Goodbye (Sin City), and The Salmon of Doubt (the last collection of writings by Douglas Adams.
First, the novelization:
When Return of the Jedi came out, I bought the graphic novel and read it before I saw the movie -- I felt a little like I did when I found my Christmas presents early - a little sly and a little let down that I was not surprised later on.
With my membership to Hyperspace and my chasing down of Internet rumors and illegally posted pictures, I pretty much new the entire story before I bought the novelization. I chose it over the graphic novel because I want the images that I have to belong to the film -- that is the little bit of surprise and revelation that I will experience. What I really wanted ultimately was some assuaging of my fears about the narrative loose ends and the nonsensical relationship between Padme and Anakin. I wanted to know that Lucas was going to truly being everything full circle and not cheat. I felt he had gotten a little too cute with having Artoo and Threepio join Obi-Wan and Anakin as the only characters in all six films (Yoda and Palpatine are tied at five), and having Threepio be Anakin's creation ("Thank the Maker" indeed).
The book filled in the gaps and has made me even more excited about the film. I was very guarded after the disappointment of the first two, The Phantom Menace failing to tell a compelling story and FEEL like a Star Wars film, and Attack of the Clones suffering from the wooden wheedling of Annoying Skywalker and a labyrinthine plot. This story truly will tie up all of those loose ends, and the characters' motivations and actions will all make rational sense.
I have heard that Hayden relished playing the heavy in this final chapter, and I think that his performance will shed light on the adolescent whining that characterized the his first outing. I still think it was a mistake to have him kill the women and children on Tatooine in Attack of the Clones, just as it was a mistake to have Greedo shoot first.
Ultimately, though, we need to understand that what we want and what we think should be really have no place in the Star Wars universe. Lucas may have one of the most rabid and loyal fanbases in the world, but it is often in SPITE of his choices rather than due to them. This story is HIS vision, and has nothing to do with us. He knows what he wants and has spent his life developing an Empire of his own so that he can make his dreams a verbatim digital reality. He truly does not care whether we like his film (he wants us to buy the movie tickets, and definitely wants us to buy the merchandizing, but we don't have to like the movie to do that). I feel lucky that he was blessed enough with an embarrassment of riches to fully realize his vision, and that he chose to share it with us.
Thanks, Dude. This story is sweeeeeeet.
Next: Sin City I loved it. It was the truest vision of a comic come to life since Tim Burton's Batman. There is nothing Hollywood about the film; this was two guys who love graphic novels telling a great story and making it look and feel like the book. It was a loveletter to every film noir ever made, and was one of the most violent, disturbing stories ever put on screen.
If you liked From Dusk to Dawn and Pulp Fiction, you will love this flick. If you really like comic adaptations like Spider-Man and the X-Men, but severed limbs, buckets of blood and some of the most realistic SOUNDING pummelings ever brought to the screen are a turn-off, save your money. I saw four people walk out of our showing of the film, and my lovely wife had to avert her eyes repeatedly.
Mickey Rourke was the best thing in the film, with Bruce Willis perfectly cast as Hartigan being a close second.
Bravo Frank and Robert. You can hear Kevin Smith interview them here: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4569989
The Pope The Holy Father died yesterday, and they were saying the rosary as we went to mass. There were just as many poeople there as there had been for Easter, and everyone was solemn except for those just behind us.The Vatican has a great site about the papacy, and has extensive information about Karol Wojtyla (I still don't know how to pronounce it) http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/john_Paul_ii/
Go Tarheels I taped last night's game and watched it this morning. They guys looked great -- not sure how I will catch the game tomorrow being that it doesn't start until after 9:17pm, but such is life.
Seven peeps. Don't think I would change anything about this weekend. I read a whole book I thoroughly enjoyed, saw a great concert and a great movie, and spent a lovely quiet weekend with my lovely wife. And I still have several hours left before I have to go to bed! Bonus! Fu.
