Hmmm...embarking again on a trip I am, yes. Judge me not by my shirt; a Jedi cares not if like a tourist he looks. Inspiration I seek on this trip, yes. Lucky am I that Calvin is again shoving me into a bag against my will to exploit my likeness for comedic effect on vacation. To exotic lands we will travel, and many Diet Cokes will we drink and tasty foods will we eat. Return we will, and Calvin will a wonderful website from our adventures create. Leave soon we must; no more time for blogging. Strong with the Force am I, but have trouble I might carrying Calvin's suitcase.

Last post from school:

what I am carrying with me:

  • a Cure CD I lent to an AP English teacher
  • my Gators baseball cap (worn by the Dillon bear all year)
  • eight cans of Diet A&W Root Beer (Barq's was not on sale)
  • a miniature Hawaiian shirt for Yoda to wear on the cruise (all three -- the shirt, the cruise and Yoda accompanying us -- were my lovely wife's ideas)
  • some blank CDs to make music on
  • a stack of books on writing to create a writing curriculum for a course I teach
  • a smile that this year (and the folks I worked with) was so cool and brief (the year, not the folks)

    8:46am -- Dillon out

Star Wars: Episode III | Episode III Easter Egg Hunt

This is cool -- I thought there were much more than just the ones I had seen -- you have to be quite hardcore to have caught these without help.

My lovely wife informed me that yesterday was "towel day" - a holiday honoring the life and work of Douglas Adams. How this cultural eccentricity passed me by I will never know -- but I am adding it to my Outlook so I don't miss it next year! You are supposed to walk around all day with a towel and explain to anyone who asks why you are doing so. She had three kids in the library bring towels and talk to her about it.

Last night we had an American Idol party last night to celebrate the season four finale. I don't know why I keep watching the program when my choices are traditionally voted off early in favor of some untalented niche performer. I thought for sure Constantine had it this year, then he was voted off (he will be fine, though -- he has a band called Pray for the Soul of Betty). I thought Bo was going to when the whole shebang last night, but alas, this prediction was off as well (he will be fine as well -- he has a band of his own on GarageBand.com called "Sugar Money").

The show itself was quite humorous, with plenty of tongue in cheek references to the Paula scandal and Simon's narcissism. That alone mad it worth watching Secrest try to tease us for two hours.

Yesterday was our end of the year luncheon at a local restaurant called Coquina Blue -- grilled veggies, yellow rice, salad, blackened grouper and chicken marsala -- yummo. I sat with the secretaries and schmoozed -- they are just as fun as the English teachers for the most part.

My last class is taking its exam now, and I should have it graded by about 12:30, at which time I think I shall repair to our abode and commence the laundry process in advance of our trip, play a couple of video games, and bubble in the grades, so all I have to do tomorrow is show up and turn things over.

    EPILOGUE:

I did get my grade sheets turned in, and everything is cleared out of my room save eight Diet Root Beers and one box of miscellany. I am going in tomorrow to gloat over everyone else and go out to a well-deserved lunch with my teacher friends.

My lovely wife brought home WONDERFUL barbeque from her end of the year luncheon, and we watched "Saturday Night Fever" -- she had never had the pleasure.

Happy end of the year to those of you for whom the year is ending.

Today was the second day of exams and graduation for Gaither. School was essentially over at 9:30, so I took advantage of that fact to do the unthinkable, for those who know what the end of my years are usually like (last minute wrangling and running around packing hideous amounts of detritus and sundries into the automobile). I packed up my room in the CABINETS, except for four boxes of books and folders I want to have at home so I can pretend to work on things over the summer. AND I graded all the exams! AND I have all morning tomorrow during the 3rd period exam to make sure the attendance is in order, and then I can start bubbling grade sheets! I will be able to leave school EARLY on the last day! Nothing can stand in my way! I am an irrestible force! I may even go see Star Wars that afternoon to celebrate (probably not, I need to pack for our trip).

I watched the finale of 24 this evening (recorded it with the handy dandy PVR). I was a great end to things; Marwan takes his own life, but Jack saves the day and goes into hiding. Can hardly wait for next January.

Well, I have a pizza in the oven, and VH-1 Classic on surround sound, so I am actually stepping away from the computer now.

    Have a GREAT evening.

Chicago Tribune | The box office Force is strong in `Star Wars'

I guess George doesn't have to ask anyone to show him the money!

I love that it smashed the records -- I wish that annoying Spider-Man flick had been released on a Thursday so that could fall, too, but you can't have everything.

Just finished watching "Ghost World" on IFC. That was a great flick. Thora Birch is my new hero(ine), and Scarlett Johannsen was great in this, as was Buscemi. It is nice to watch complicated movies with messy endings written with great dialogue and comic moments that feel real.

The show 24 ends in 18 minutes -- so I either have a date with the tv or the PVR, depending on how tired I feel.
