Happy Birthday Sally! My little brother has had a little girl! (yesterday)
Sorry I have not written in like a long time. I kept meaning to take care of the cruise pictures, but that has not happened yet because I have been reading. Books. Really.
Since school has let out (May 28 - 27 days ago) I have read the following books (ten since the 28th -- an average of a book every 2.7 days):
Trace by Patricia Cornwell
Not a bad Scarpetta novel. I liked that she had to bail out Marino with the psycho chick. Not the best, though.
Plain Truth by Judy Picoult
Really interesting mystery about the death of an infant on an Amish farm and the lawyer who is a distant relative of the suspect who comes to live with the family and investigate the crime. Neat book.
Skinny Dip by Carl Hiaasen
Yeah! Skink returns! There is a psycho named Tool who loves to harvest roadside crosses and collects patches of pain medication from patients in nursing homes. I love Stranahan, and this is pure Carl. Twisted by Jonathan Kellerman
This was a Petra book, not an Alex book. I liked it okay, though. Nice story about a psycho who emulates a serial killer and a geeky kid who figures it all out.
Hero by S.L. Rottman
Breathing Underwater by Alex Flinn
This was a great book! The story of a kid who has abused his girlfriend, is under a restraining order and has to write a journal and report to anger management classes.
Takeoffs and Landings by Margaret Peterson Haddix
This was a sos so book from an author I enjoy. It was a nice dual narrative, with a brother and sister who are on a trip with their mom. I liked the character of the boy, Chuck. Flipped by Wendelin van Draanen
Great, really cute book about relationships and lies with eighth graders as protagonists.
Time Capsule edited by Donald Gallo
Great book -- stories about teenagers that tell the stories of each of the decades of the twentieth century.
Kings of Infinite Space by James Hynes
This is a great book. I don't often make comparisons to Da Man - Kurt Vonnegut -- but this one is worthy. The book is a surreal office intrigue/romance/psychopathic sci-fi horror story about an ex-academic working as a tech writer in Texas. Brilliant.
Therapy by Jonathan Kellerman
This was a Delaware book. A little long on the explanation for what would have made a great CSI episode, but I like hearing Alex and Milo talk to each other, so it wasn't so bad. And Spike was in it, too.
I am currently reading "Neverwhere" by Neil Gaiman, and I am getting ready to read Book 3 of the Sandman, and V For Vendetta is on the way.
I should be able to keep this pace up through the end of the summer -- I plan to be a frequent flyer at the library.
I am watching the AFI special of the 100 top movie quotes right now -- pretty cute but predictable -- it is amazing how many of these quotes I THINK I know but still have a few words in the wrong order.
I also watched the AFI salute to Lucas last night -- Carrie Fisher was a psycho, and the opening number with the high kicking stormtroopers with Shatner singing "Your Way" was inspired.
