On the MirrorMask website, Sony has released the names of the lucky few theaters that will actually get to show the movie, and so far there are NO FLORIDA SHOWINGS!! Even stupid Georgia gets the movie and we don't???????

With all the schlock that Hollywood has dumped on the public in the past year, they can't get some guts and released a decent film in wide distribution? This is SONY, for goodness sake! They made enough money on the Spider-Man franchise to subsidize every indie film from now til the end of Paris Hilton's time in the limelight (which seems to be eternal to me!) Grrr. Arrrrrrgh.

ON a lighter note, I started teaching a new class, called "Critical Thinking Skills," this week. So I got to meet 22 new tenth graders (well, 21, because one was in my freshman College Prep Reading class last year).

I still only have 97 students, spread among 6 classes. I am the luckiest teacher in the world.

I am also a lucky dad, because I get to spend the weekend with my wee bairn since Hurricane Katrina took a turn for the west. Right now we have sunny skies and calm breezes, and my lovely daughter is waiting patiently to get on the computer, so I will hop off now.

Hope everyone else had a good week, and is mercifully free from the ravages of the sniffles. (Alas, Mr. D has been infected)

Oh, on a tech note, I did some interesting music shopping this week. When you download the new WinAmp, you get a link for a free trial of eMusic. You give them a credit card number and you can download 50 songs and then cancel, no questions asked! I got three Cult albums, Doolittle by the Pixies, and some Johnny Cash.

Rhapsody also has a 2 week trial offer right now, and I got the SNFU album "If You Swear, You'll Catch No Fish," which was in constant rotation in the stereo of the Gold Bug senior year, for $8.96 (it's 13.98 on Amazon, plus shipping!)

Getting more and more excited about the movie "Serenity" -- I am loving the Firefly series reruns on Sci-Fi, and the clips from the film are waaaay cool.

Joss is doing some "viral marketing" for the film, including "leaked" footage of Summer Glau offing the Whedon himself -- the R. Tam Session 416 Maybe that film will actually be shown in my state!

Have a groovy day.
