This has definitely been the week for getting back in touch with folks. I talked to Chris and Dean this week -- my best friends from Chapel Hill and Gainesville, respectively, and we got each other caught right back up, even though it has been three or four years in both cases.
Small cyberverse.
Got Jen's sister this bizarro blender that lets you make a shake to go -- very interesting.
Oops -- gotta go wrap the present -- HOIGHT!

Heard from an old friend through the blog on the comments this week. It was great to hear from him again.
Chris and I met at Chapel Hill in August of 1987, and became friends when I flipped through his record collection and felt awed that someone else besides my brother and I listened to cool music.
Many games of pool, all you can eat pizza ("take another little PIZZA my heart now, baaaabaay"), trips to Taco Bell for five soft tacos, hanging out in Old West with Keith and the the other Deadheads, playing me "something with guitar in it," and much "hassling of the Word" made for a pretty cool friendship.
I am not very good at staying in touch with people with whom I have been close and then subsequently moved away from, but I am glad that the Interweb is out there to keep us all connected.
I say we all take some time today to try to Google someone from our pasts and renew an old friendship -- life is too short not to stay in touch with people who matter, and who are probably waiting for you to get in touch with them. The worst thing that can happen is they won't respond, and then you just move on to the next one on your list.
Happy Friday!

Yeah, I was gonna do that Google thing. But I think she still has a restraining order against me....
I think you should go ahead -- you can always say it was a sophomore you gave an "F" to five years ago who held a grudge and impersonated you.

Had a nice time today -- I made a cool little spreadsheet for the kids to practice their vocab words with -- I like how hard these guys work -- it is a nice change from last year. I think I am becoming much more organized as I age -- though my desk and schoolbag don't show it.
I really logged on to tell you about something else, though. Jim told me about the coolest site in the galaxy -- I hope these guys start making obscene wads of flow, cheese, clams, smackers, moolah and benjamins quick so the site sticks around.
It is called pandora.com (how they snagged that name, I will never know...)
When you go there, you can set up radio stations with bands you like. The thing to do is set up a station and then listen to it -- at first it will play a song by the artist you typed in, but as time goes on, it will play other songs by artists related to that one by database descriptors. You can "add" bands to any of the stations for a more eclectic mix. I made one with Death Cab, the New Pornographers, the Postal Service, and Bloc Party, and another station with Fugazi, Girls Against Boys, Pavement, and At the Drive-In. The stations are REALLY different, and some of the songs they throw up there are REALLY neato.
The BEST part is you can add songs to a favorites page as they play just by clicking on them, and the page has a hard link, so you can share playlists REALLY easily with people.
Here's mine:

Please, everyone go there immediately, set up an account (they claim you have to look at ads, but I have yet to see any) and start listening to music and building pages. It is free, and cool, and exposes you to new radical tunage. Bonus.
