This week was fun.
We practiced SAT and FCAT (I am noticing a great deal of improvement in several of the kids).
We played Jeopardy (you can download the PowerPoints here.)
Saw a new rockin' 24 and skipped a very lame FIRST SEASON episode of LOST. We watched American Idol in its place -- this part of the show is excruciatingly funny.
I saw the State of the Union, and laughed when the left aisle jumped up and clapped when GWB said that congress did not pass his Social Security reform, and laughed harder at Steven Colbert's mockery of said presidential event.
I am excited that Jon Stewart will host the Academy Awards, and I am indifferent about the SuperBowl. Actually, it would be nice for the Steelers to regain the title, so I guess I am pulling for them.. Who would have thought at the beginning of the season it would be THOSE two teams, though...
I have nothing really planned for the weekend...there is a talent show at my school tonight but the torrential rains of today have dampened my enthusiasm for adolescent theatrics and attempts at musical expression that are more earnest than technically skilled.
I got to hold the walkie talkie this week to sub for an administrator -- haven't done that as much this year.
I have also enjoyed watching the kids read -- most of them are really into their books -- I have had several already finish at least one.
I hope that everyone else has a nice quiet evening planned. I am waiting for my eMusic downloads to refresh so I can get Bloc Party, Guided By Voices, !!! (Chk Chk Chk), Coalesce, Broken Social Scene, Josh Rouse, Jawbox, and Deerhoof.
Of all of the bands, I think I am the most excited by !!! -- they sound neato.
Time to go find some way to avoid work for a little while -- maybe Battlefront!

Weeeeelllllll...
I didn't get the Guided by Voices or the Jawbox -- I found something EVEN better!
There is an album called "Doctoring the Tardis" with the Dr. Who remixes of Gary Glitter's "Rock and Roll, Pt.2" I got that.
I also got two new reto-sounding bands -- "Communique" and "Film School." They rock seriously, in the Stills-Interpol-NewPornographers vein.
Oh well -- one month of waiting for thirty minutes of clicking and 90 songs over 7 albums -- priceless. Or $19.99, depending on whose credit statements you peek at. God bless eMusic.

Two episodes of 24, Oceans both 11 AND 12, Saw, a Battlestar Galactica, two very different Gator basketball games, three stomach viruses and a LOST happened in between these two posts.
I do like Ocean's 11, and 12 was cute, but not as good.
Galactica was awesome, and LOST was a waste of time.
The Gators got STOMPED by USC, but beat Vandy -- this season is weird.
SAm got sick, then Joe got sick, and I have been so far under the weather that I have forgotten what the sun looks like (especially since it was not out at all today).
I am now just dizzy with a sore throat, which is perfect for the videotaping I have to do tomorrow for my last reading class. I did the whole two month curriculum of work in 2 1/2 hours this evening. Yaaaaaay me.
Jack Bauer kicks much booty, as does the book I am reading now.
Be More Chill by Ned Vizzini -- GREAT book.
A kid gets a hold of an illicit "squip" -- a biocomputer produced by Sony that you swallow in pill form and then talks to you in the voice of Keanu Reeves and tells you how to be cool.
If it were not for the profanity and rather specific making out scenes directed by the computer, it would be mandatory reading in all my classes.
There is a good deal of wonderful teenspeak, and it really is a fantastic story -- amost reminiscent of Vonnegut, if he skated and listened to Badly Drawn Boy.
Hope y'all stay healthy.
